NEW YORK CITY — Pleasant temperatures arriving in New York City this week likely won't be accompanied by equally tranquil weather, forecasters warn.

A hazardous weather outlook starting Thursday warns of wind gusts as high as 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms could arrive as well early Friday, when there will be a 100 percent chance of rain, the forecast states. New rainfall could reach 0.75 inches, it states.

And that's not all: "Temperature rising to around 63 by 2 a.m.," the forecast states.

The balmy, spring-like temperatures will actually begin Thursday, which will be cloudy and windy during the day, according to the forecast.

The predicted stormy, rainy weather is part of a strong frontal system that will blow into New York later that day, forecasters said.

Once the rain blows through, temperatures will drop back to 40 degrees Friday during the day, according to the forecast.

Mostly cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 47 by 4 a.m. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Southwest wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Temperature rising to around 63 by 2 a.m. Breezy, with a south wind 18 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch are possible.

A 20 percent chance of showers before 10 a.m. Cloudy through midmorning, then gradual clearing, with a temperature falling to around 40 by 5 p.m. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 23 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 41 mph.
