NYC Weather: Weekend Thunderstorms, Rain, Fog Likely

A wet, rainy Saturday could bring thunderstorms to the city, according to the National Weather Service.

NEW YORK CITY — Thunderstorms could punctuate warm, foggy and rainy Saturday in New York City, forecasters warn.

The weekend will start Friday with late night patchy fog and showers, according to the National Weather Service. The chance of rain is all-but certain Saturday, dampening the chance New Yorkers can appreciate the 60-degree highs, the forecast states.

"Chance of precipitation is 90%," the forecast states. "New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."

New York City, as of Friday morning, appears to be spared the worst effects of wet weather that neighboring areas such as Connecticut — where hail and severe storms are predicted — likely will experience.

But the forecast could change over the course of Friday.
