NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes For Dec 16-17
Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4 5, A, B, C, D, F, G, J, M, N, R and S trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Dec. 15, through early Monday morning, Dec. 18 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.
Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a whopping 16 train lines will be running with modified service.

1 train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, downtown 1 trains skip 137 St, 125 St, 116 St, 110 St and 103 St due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work. Use an uptown 1 train to complete your trip.
2/3 trains:

- From 1:45 p.m. Friday, December 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2/3 service will be suspended in Brooklyn due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel. This project is part of MTA's ongoing efforts to fix assets damaged during Sandy, and include repairs and rehabilitation of tracks, signals, pump rooms, fire protection system, and power and communication cables.
- In Brooklyn, 4 service will operate local to Crown Hts-Utica Av to replace the 3. Free shuttle buses will run from Crown Hts-Utica Av to New Lots Av. 5 service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the 2. 4 and 5 trains will run local in Brooklyn. Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations. As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St 4/5. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for N/Q/R trains for service to Manhattan.
- In Manhattan, downtown 2/3 trains will be rerouted. 2 trains will run between the Bronx and South Ferry, making local stops between 34 St-Penn Station and South Ferry. 3 service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St. Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations. Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St 4/5 stations instead.
- A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry 1/2 and Bowling Green 4/5 Transfer between South Ferry 1/2 and R at South Ferry-Whitehall St. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for N/Q/R trains to Brooklyn.
4 train:
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, Woodlawn-bound 4 trains skip 161 St, 167 St, 170 St, Mt Eden Av and 176 St due to track replacement. Use a Manhattan-bound 4 train to complete your trip.
- From 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, and from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 4 service operates every 16 minutes between 125 St and Woodlawn due to track replacement. The last stop for some trains headed toward Woodlawn is 125 St.
4/5 trains:
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 4 service is extended to New Lots Av and 5 service is extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel. 4/5 trains will run local in Brooklyn to replace the 2/3. A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry 1/2 and Bowling Green 4/5 stations.
- From 10:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, uptown 4/5 trains run local from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work.
A train:
- From 11:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, A trains are suspended in both directions between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway due to track replacement as part of Subway Action Plan work. A service will operate between 168 St and Broad Channel, and via the S to/from Rockaway Park. Shuttle buses will make all stops between Beach 90 St and Far Rockaway. Transfer between trains and buses at Beach 90 St.
- From 10:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, A trains will stop at 155 St and 163 St in both directions due to communications improvements.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, A trains are suspended in both directions between Inwood-207 St and 168 St due to communications improvements. 1 trains make nearby stops between 168 St and 207 St. Free shuttle buses will run along two routes:
- On Broadway, between 168 St and 207 St.
- On Fort Washington Av, between 168 St and 190 St.
B/D trains:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, uptown B/D trains are rerouted via the C line from W 4 St-Wash Sq to 145 St due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work. For service between W 4 St-Wash Sq and 47-50 Sts, use the F via transfer at W 4 St-Wash Sq. For 7 Av, take the E instead via transfer at 42 St/Port Authority.
- From 10:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, downtown B/D trains stop at 23 St and 14 St due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work.
C train:
- From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on both Saturday, Dec. 16, and Sunday, Dec. 17, C trains are suspended in both directions between 145 St and 168 St due to communications improvements. Take the A train instead.
- From 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17, uptown C trains run express from Canal St to 145 St due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work. Use a Norwood-205 St bound D train to complete your trip.
D train:
- From 10:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, D trains run local in both directions between DeKalb Av and 36 St in Brooklyn due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work.
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, Norwood-205 St bound D trains skip 182-183 Sts due to track maintenance. Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D train to complete your trip.
F train:
- At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I due to station renewal work on the Culver Line . When finished, more than 27,000 daily customers will benefit from repaired staircases, fare control areas, walls, floors, platform girders, new platform windscreens, rubbing boards, tactile warning strips, improved lighting and artwork.
- For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-bound F train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F.
- For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound F.
- From 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, and from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, the last stop for some Brooklyn-bound F trains will be 2 Av due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work. To continue your trip, transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F train at 2 Av.
F/G trains:
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 179 St-bound F trains and Bedford-Nostrand Avs bound G trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, 15 St-Prospect Park and 4 Av-9 St due to track maintenance. Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F or Church Av-bound G train to complete your trip.
G train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, G trains are suspended in both directions between Bedford Nostrand-Avs and Court Sq due to signal maintenance as part of the work for the Subway action plan. Free shuttle buses will operate between Bedford Nostrand-Avs and Court Sq making all station stops.
J train:
- At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound trains skip 121 St and 104 St due to station rehabilitation work.
- For service to these stations, use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound J to 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
- For service from these stations, use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from J service at nearby 111 St.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, J trains are suspended in both directions between Essex St and Broad St due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work. For service between Delancey-Essex St and Broad St, use the 4/6 to nearby stations via transfer at Bleecker St F. For service to/from Manhattan, Use the A/C or L via transfer at Broadway Junction.
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, J trains are suspended in both directions between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station improvements. Free shuttle buses make all J line station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck.
M train:
- From 6:15 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 and from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, M trains are suspended in both directions between Essex St and Broadway Junction due to track maintenance. Take the J train instead.
- At all times until April 2018, M service is suspended in both directions between Myrtle Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs due to theMyrtle Viaduct Reconstruction project. M service will operate in two sections:
- Between Delancey-Essex St and Myrtle Av, and via the J to/from Broadway Junction, days/evenings.
- Between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
- Free shuttle buses operate between Myrtle Av (Broadway) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
N train:
- At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St.
- For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
- For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N.
- For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
- At all times until Spring 2018, N trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations for N/W service at Broadway, Astoria Blvd, and 39 Av, or go to the Steinway St or 36 St M/R stations. Or, use the following convenient bus route(s):
- Q102 to open Astoria line stations, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7 or Queens Plaza E/M/R.
- Q18 to Northern Blvd M/R.
- Q66 to Steinway St M/R, Northern Blvd M/R, 21 St-Queensbridge F, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7, and Queens Plaza E/M/R.
- Q69 and Q100 Ltd to 21 St-Queensbridge F, Queens Plaza E/M/R, Queensboro Plaza N/W/7.
- From 10:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, N trains run local in both directions between DeKalb Av and 59 St in Brooklyn, due to drain cleaning as part of Subway Action Plan work.
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains skip Broadway and 39 Av due to station enhancements. Use an Astoria-bound N train to complete your trip.
- From 11:45 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to Monday, Dec. 18, N trains are rerouted via the Q line in both directions between Canal St and DeKalb Av due to signal maintenance as part of Subway Action Plan work. Use the 4/5 at nearby stations. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or 14 St-Union Sq.
R train:
- From 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17, R trains are rerouted via the Q line in both directions between Canal St and DeKalb Av due to signal maintenance as part of Subway Action Plan work. Use the 4/5 at nearby stations. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or 14 St-Union Sq.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 6:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, and from 11:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 to Monday, Dec. 18, R trains are suspended in both directions between Whitehall St and 59 St in Brooklyn due to track maintenance. Take the 4/5/D/N instead.
S train:
- From 11:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, A trains replace S shuttle trains between Broad Channel and Rockaway Parkway due to track replacement as part of Subway Action Plan work. A service will operate between 168 St and Broad Channel, and via the S to/from Rockaway Park.
