NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes For Oct. 21-22

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Oct. 20, through early Monday morning, Oct. 23 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a whopping 16(!) train lines will be running with modified service. (For more NYC local news, subscribe to Patch to get a daily newsletter and breaking news alerts.)

1/2 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, uptown 1/2 trains run express from Times Sq-42 St to 72 St due to continuous welded rail and track replacement.

2 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2/3 service will be suspended in Brooklyn due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel. This project is part of MTA’s ongoing efforts to fix assets damaged during Sandy, and include repairs and rehabilitation of tracks, signals, pump rooms, fire protection system, and power and communication cables.
  • In Brooklyn, 4 service will operate local to Crown Hts-Utica Av to replace the 3. Free shuttle buses will run from Crown Hts-Utica Av to New Lots Av. 5 service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the 2. 4 and 5 trains will run local in Brooklyn. Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations. As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St 4/5. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for N/Q/R trains for service to Manhattan.
  • In Manhattan, downtown 2/3 trains will be rerouted. 2 trains will run between the Bronx and South Ferry, making local stops between 34 St-Penn Station and South Ferry. 3 service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St. Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations. Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St 4/5 stations instead.
  • A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry 1/2 and Bowling Green 4/5 Transfer between South Ferry 1/2 and R at South Ferry-Whitehall St. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for N/Q/R trains to Brooklyn.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, downtown 2/3 trains run local from 96 St to Times Sq-42 St due to track maintenance.

2/5 train:

• From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, October 21 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, uptown 2/5 trains run express from 3 Av-149 St to E 180 St due to track maintenance.

4 train:

• From 11:30 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 4 trains are suspended in both directions between Crown Hts-Utica Av and New Lots Av due to track replacement, switch work, and platform repairs. Free shuttle buses make all station stops between Crown Hts-Utica Av and New Lots Av. Transfer between 4 trains and shuttle buses at Crown Hts-Utica Av.
• From 5:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21 and from 5:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, Crown Hts-Utica Av-bound 4 trains skip 176 St, Mt Eden Av, 170 St, 167 St, and 161 St due to track maintenance and track tie renewal. Use a Woodlawn-bound 4 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 149 St- Grand Concourse or Burnside Av.

4/5 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. on Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, 4 service will operate local to Crown Hts-Utica Av and 5 service is extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel. 4/5 trains will run local in Brooklyn to replace the 2/3. A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry 1/2 and Bowling Green 4/5 stations.

6 train:

• From 5:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall bound 6 trains run express from Parkchester to Hunts Point Av due to track replacement and rail renewal.

7 train:

• From 3:45 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, Flushing-Main St bound 7 trains run express from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point due to track panel installation.

A train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, A trains are suspended in both directions between Inwood-207 St and 168 St due to communication improvements. A service will operate between 168 St in Manhattan and Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd in Queens. 1 trains make nearby stops between 168 St and 207 St. Free shuttle buses provide alternate service and operate along two routes:
  • On Broadway, between 168 St and Inwood-207 St, stopping at 175 St, 181 St, 190 St and Dyckman St.
  • On Fort Washington Av, between 168 St and 190 St, stopping at 175 St and 181 St.
• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, October 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, Queens-bound A trains run local from Broadway Junction to Euclid Av due to track maintenance.

A/C train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, uptown A/C trains run express from Canal St to 125 St due to signal improvements.

A/D train:

• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, October 21 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, downtown A/D trains run local from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to track maintenance.

C train:

• From 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, C trains are suspended in both directions between 145 St and 168 St due to communication improvements. Take the A instead. A service will operate between Euclid Av and 145 St. trains will stop at 155 St and 163 St. Transfer at 125 St or 145 St.

D train:

• At all times until Fall 2017, D trains skip Prospect Av in both directions. For service to/from this station use the nearby 4 Av-9 St F/G/R or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, D trains are suspended in both directions between Norwood-205 St and Bedford Pk Blvd due to electrical improvements. Free shuttle buses operate between Norwood-205 St and Bedford Pk Blvd. Transfer between trains and buses at Bedford Pk Blvd.

D/N train:

• From 11:45 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Friday, October 20 to Monday, October 23, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D/N trains run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St, and N trains run express between 36 St and 59 St in Brooklyn due to Enhanced Station Initiative work. Use a Manhattan-bound D/N local or R train to complete your trip.

E train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, uptown E trains skip Spring St and 23 St due to signal improvements.

F train:

• At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I.
  • For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-boundF train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F.
  • For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound F.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, F service is suspended in both directions between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Church Av due to Enhanced Station Initiative work. Free shuttle buses make all F line station stops between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Church Av. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Church Av.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, Jamaica-179 St bound F trains skip 14 St and 23 St due to signal improvements.

J train:

• At all times until Fall 2017, Manhattan-bound J trains skip 121 St.
  • For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound J to 111 St and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
  • For service from this station, use the nearby 111 St station instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from L service at nearby 111 St.
• Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer bound J trains skip 121 St between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Take a Q56 bus or the Z train instead.
• From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, October 21 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, J trains are suspended in both directions between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station improvements. Free shuttle buses make all J line station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck.

M train:

• At all times until April 2018, M service is suspended in both directions between Myrtle Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs. M service will operate in two sections:
  • Between Essex St and Myrtle Av, and via the J to/from Broadway Junction, days/evenings.
  • Between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
  • Free shuttle buses operate between Myrtle Av (Broadway) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

N train:

• At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St.
  • For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
  • For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N.
• For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, Astoria-Ditmars Blvd bound N trains skip 39 Av, 36 Av, Broadway, and 30 Av due to station enhancements. Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N or Whitehall St-bound W to complete your trip.

N/R train:

• At all times until Fall 2017 R trains skip Prospect Av in both directions due to station enhancements. For service to/from Prospect Av use the 4 Av-9 St F/G/R or 25 St R stations via the B37 and B63 local buses.

R train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 20 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, Bay Ridge-bound R trains run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 59 St in Brooklyn due to station enhancements.
