Projected 2019 Restaurant Trends

Victor Jung lists a few expected trends to rise in the food industry in 2019.

Restaurants are always looking for ways to improve their customer service and get more people walking through their doors. They will even shift their entire business plan if they believe it will draw in more customers. Below are a few of the trends experts say restaurants will most likely begin to utilize in 2019.

Healthy Desserts will be Promoted

With so many people taking their health much more seriously, restaurants have taken note and adjusted their menus as necessary. Expect to see many healthy options, such as fruits, non-fat yogurts, and even hummus on the dessert menu.

The Rise of Oat Milk

It's dairy and nut free, providing an excellent alternative to both lactose intolerant people and those allergic to nuts. It also doesn't taste too bad. Oat milk has a creamier texture than other milk substitutes as well, making it an adequate alternative to the popular dairy product.

Lagers are Back

Actually, they never went anywhere. Americans love beer, and they will always be ready to have a cold one with in accompaniment with their dinners. However, experts believe lagers specifically will see a rise in 2019.

The Cold Coffee Protest

Many coffee connoisseurs are claiming that cold coffee isn't correctly extracting the flavors from the coffee beans. Let's be clear, iced coffee isn't going anywhere, but don't be surprised if you see some restaurants advertising them less, promoting hotter recipes more.

Expect to See Beets

Beets are a versatile root vegetable. They can be used as a garnish or as a central component of a meal. It isn't just red beets that are set to gain popularity. Golden beets may also be on the rise in 2019.

Sea Vegetables will Enter the U.S.

Citizens of the United States are beginning to catch on to what sea vegetables are all about. Expect to see restaurants take advantage of this. Sea vegetables could be implemented into an array of menu items in the near future, those being seaweed, arame, kelp, and nori.

Platters to Share

Not many people dine alone when eating out; they’ll often go with their friends or family. Sometimes, it's fun to simply grab a platter of something and share it with the table. Restaurants are expected to push party platters or shareable snacks much more in 2019.

In conclusion, the food service industry is highly competitive, and restaurants will happily go above and beyond to stay ahead of the competition. Expect to see some new, outside-the-box recipes and menu items this new year.
