Vera Jiji, at 93, is thoroughly enjoying the road she never thought she’d take – as a cellist, now playing with two musical groups, a trio and a string quartet at her local YMCA most Fridays. Although Vera started playing the cello when she was 12, at the High School of Music & Art in Manhattan, she set it aside after high school and went on to teach English as a professor at Brooklyn College until her retirement at 62.

Feeling at loose ends after retirement, Vera was inspired to pick up the cello again and found, much to her delight, that it gave her not only great joy but also a connection with other music lovers and those she plays with. A delightful journey down a totally different road.
