Rudy Andriani M.D., New York, on Health Tips for Men

Rudy Andriani M.D., shares insight about recommended health tips that men should consider.

We’re only provided one body in our lifetime. It’s important to take the necessary steps required to take care of your body and maintain overall good health. Follow a few of these tips to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Find a Doctor
The days of going to the doctor only when you’re sick, or until you’re so sick you’re barely functioning, are coming to an end. We aren’t getting any younger, and preventative healthcare is the first step to ensuring that we live a healthy and fulfilled life. Start by finding a doctor that you’re comfortable with, and schedule routine visits for check-ups. Age often brings along ailments that you may not have had concerns about in your younger years. Ease your mind and any stress by expressing any concerns or issues to your doctor; this will help you take precautions and preventative strides towards your overall wellbeing.

Eat to Live
Simply said, it’s time to cut out the fast food, and start adopting healthier eating habits. What we put into our bodies directly affects our health and overall function. Natural foods provide our bodies with essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and nutrients; these components contribute to our energy levels, weight, and improves the health of organs such as skin, heart, and kidneys (to mention a few). Cut out foods high in sugars, fats, and preservatives, and consume more natural, healthy options.

Workout Regularly
While you’re adopting better eating habits, you may consider adding a workout routine into the mix. Working out and other types of physical activity are essential to keeping your body (and mind) healthy. Think about joining a fitness center, taking up an active sport, or committing to a short jog a few nights a week after work. Activities such as these will build up your endurance, maintain and increase muscle, improve cardiovascular health, and assist in maintaining a healthy body weight.

Be Aware of Prostate Health
The health and condition of your prostate is not something you want to take lightly. According to the American Cancer Society, every year there are over 160,000 new cases of prostate cancer with close to 30,000 resulting in fatalities. Prostate cancer symptoms can often be overlooked as something not as serious, as the symptoms can be shared with other, less serious issues. If you find you are showing signs of prostate cancer, take a trip to your doctor as a precaution. It’s not worth ignoring.

Get Your Sleep
The effects of a lack of sleep don’t discriminate; if you are not sleeping enough, you are harming your body physically as well as mentally. Make sure you do what you can to get an appropriate amount of sleep each night, and don’t ignore your body when it’s tired. Lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain, a suppressed immune system, and can negatively impact your mental and emotional health.
