See When Your NYC Street Got Plowed During Winter Storm

NEW YORK CITY — A fleet of plows will run circuits through New York City’s streets in a battle against the blankets of snow dumped from a massive Nor’Easter.

The battle is likely to be losing one on Monday and perhaps Tuesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. He said the storm’s 2 inch-per-hour snowfall pace will make it difficult for plows across the state to safely clear streets.

The city’s sanitation Commissioner Ed Grayson said plows will work to keep streets “passable” but encouraged motorists to stay off roads. A passable roadway is not blacktop, he said.

“In a storm like this, it'll be quite some time before everyone can see blacktop on their street,” he said. “But make no mistake, we are out there. We are going to come on a slow, methodical approach to hit every street in the city multiple times. I cannot stress that enough, it will take multiple passes during this prolonged period of active snowfall.”

“There’s a lot of snow to move,” he said.

New Yorkers who heeded Grayson’s, Cuomo’s and Mayor Bill de Blasio’s strongly-worded advice to stay indoors during the storm can still check on when sanitation plows last passed on their street.

PlowNYC is an online tracker for the city’s plows and spreader vehicles. People can search their street address and find a color-coded result designating when a plow last drove through the roadway.

A random sampling of locations in New York City on Monday afternoon showed most major streets had plows pass in the last hour.
