Teen Robbed At Knifepoint In Central Park, Police Say

A 16-year-old was threatened with a knife after refusing to give up his backpack, police said.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — Police are searching for two people who robbed a teenager at knifepoint in Central Park, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

The 16-year-old victim was sitting on a bench near the basketball courts on 85th Street near East Drive around 9 p.m. Saturday night when he was approached by two unknown men, police told Patch. When the men approached the teen they told him "run your pockets," and attempted to snatch the teen's backpack, police said.

The 16-year-old refused to give the backpack up and a struggle ensued, police said. During the struggle one of the robbers pulled out a knife and threatened the teen, which caused him to let go of the bag, police said. The robbers fled the park and are still at large, police told Patch.

The 16-year-old did refused medical treatment at the scene of the robbery, police said. The victim told police he was waiting to meet up with a friend inside the park before the robbery.
