Thief Raided 15 Locker Rooms In Manhattan New York Sports Clubs: Police

The thief has been stolen valuables lockers in New York Sports Clubs in Manhattan since September.

NEW YORK, NY — Police are searching for a serial robber who has been lifting valuables from New York Sports Club locker rooms in Manhattan during a months-long crime spree.

The suspected thief has struck 15 times at New York Sports Clubs in Midtown Manhattan, Chelsea, Kips Bay, the West Village and Greenwich Village, police told Patch. On multiple occasions the thief has returned to the scene of a previous robbery to strike again, police said.

The first reported theft occurred September 23 at a gym located on Sixth Avenue between West 48th and 49th streets, police said. Around 5:30 p.m. the alleged locker room bandit opened an unlocked locker and stole a backpack containing shoes, headphones, credit cards and clothing, police said.

The alleged serial robber was especially busy during the month of November, stealing from Sports Clubs lockers seven different times, police told Patch.

The most recent locker room robbery occurred Jan. 5 at a gym located on Eighth Avenue between West 16th and 17th streets — a location the robber has hit on three occasions. Around 6:15 p.m. the alleged thief stole a Dell laptop, keys, bluetooth headphones and a backpack from a locker that had been locked, police said.

The suspect is described as a white man. Security photos taken in various New York Sports Club locker rooms show the suspect has short hair and is often wearing gym clothing and carrying a gym bag during the robberies.

  1. Friday, Sept. 23, 5:30 p.m.: Backpack containing shoes, headphones, credit cards and clothing stolen from locker at the New York Sports Club located at 1221 6th Ave.
  2. Thursday, October 13 4 p.m.: Credit cards and keys stolen from locker the New York Sports Club located at 113 E. 23rd St.
  3. Tuesday, November 8, 12:45 p.m.: Wallet, jacket and credit cards stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 225 Varick St.
  4. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 6:29 p.m.: Coach belt, credit cards and keys stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 1372 Broadway.
  5. Thursday, Nov 10, 5:57 p.m.: Jacket, keys and credit card stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 200 Park Ave.
  6. Friday, Nov. 18, 6:15 p.m.: Apple Macbook, clothes and credit cards stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 128 8th Ave.
  7. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 4 p.m.: Clothing, keys and Goose jacket stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 128 8th Ave.
  8. Sunday, Nov. 27 3:55 p.m.: Apple iPad, Apple Macbook, notary stamp and a backpack stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 34 W. 14th St.
  9. Monday, Nov. 28 4:10 p.m.: Wallet and backpack stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 225 Varick St.
  10. Tuesday, Nov 29, 12:32 p.m.: Apple iPhone 5 and an undetermined amount of cash stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 230 W. 41st St .
  11. Friday, Dec. 2, 1:25 p.m.: Apple Macbook, jacket and credit card stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located 34 W. 14th St.
  12. Friday, Dec. 2 7 p.m.: Wallet containing an undetermined amount of cash stolen from a locker at the New York Sports located at 230 W. 41st St.
  13. Saturday, Dec. 10, 4:30 p.m.: Apple iPad, Apple iPhone 5, credit cards and clothing stolen from locker at the New York Sports Club located at 34 W. 14th St.
  14. Tuesday, Dec. 20 3 p.m.: Jacket, wallet and credit cards stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 1221 Avenue of the Americas.
  15. Thursday, Jan. 5, 6:15 p.m.: Dell laptop, keys, Bluetooth headphones and a backpack stolen from a locker at the New York Sports Club located at 128 8th Ave.
