Times Square New Year's Eve Will Return With In-Person Crowd
"How it's going to work, we'll announce the details tomorrow," Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday.

NEW YORK CITY — Raucous New Year's Eve crowds will return to Times Square after a pandemic lull to usher in 2022.
Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday confirmed reports that the iconic event is going to be in-person yet again.
He called it a "big moment" to celebrate the city's fight against COVID-19.

“How it’s going to work, we’ll announce the details tomorrow,” he said.
Last year's Times Square celebration, like most large-scale events in the city, went largely virtual because of coronavirus fears and measures to prevent the virus's spread.

But events this year have largely returned to normal as coronavirus vaccinations took hold in the city. Indeed, proof of vaccination became a requirement for attendance at concerts and gatherings such as the Central Park mega-concert.
The New Year's Eve event likely will require proof of vacccination or a negative COVID-19 test, NY1 reported, citing "sources."
