Tips for Creating a Productive Work Plan For the Week
The old saying that if you fail to plan, plan on failing is true in almost every situation in life.

The old saying that if you fail to plan, plan on failing is true in almost every situation in life. If you want to have a productive week, one of the best ways to make it happen is to come up with a plan. Here are some tips for creating a productive work plan for the week.
Make it flexible
While you will certainly have a few meetings set for specific times, when it comes to your own tasks, it is better to plan your tasks and the amount of time they will take. This can be more effective than planning specific times to do them. As your week goes on, unexpected things will come up, cutting into the hour or half hour block of time you thought you had. If you prioritize your tasks first by how high a priority they are and then by how long they will take. This will help to prioritize what can be done when and can prevent interrupting projects in the middle of them. If you know a project is going to take an hour, you don’t want to schedule it when you have a meeting in 20 minutes.
Use a multi-platform digital app
With digital apps, you can block off and divide your time and get a better visual of what needs to happen when. Digital apps also work across a wide variety of platforms, so you can update a task on your smartphone and it the change will be noted on your desktop when you get back to the office. More and more apps work across platforms as well now, so with many apps and platforms, you can export travel information directly from Outlook or access a map app to calculate your commute time to your next appointment.

Plan in flextime and downtime
Crises are going to happen and nothing is ever going to go 100% according to plan. If you have every minute of your week scheduled and planned, you won’t have any room to deal with the unexpected. This is why scheduling your time in blocks is important. It’s also important to take “me time” or family time to rest, refresh and recharge. You are more likely to take that time if you actually build that time into your schedule.
Taking the time every week to schedule what the week will look like can save you some stress in the future. Don’t forget that not everything goes according to plan but it can help manage the unexpected when things are planned out.
