NEW YORK, NY — Coco Gauff had the last laugh on Monday after the athlete seemed impatient waiting for her opponent, Germany's Laura Siegemund, to recoup faster between points. “I was really patient the whole match. She was going over the time since the first set. I never said anything. I would look at the umpire, and she didn’t do anything,” exclaimed Gauff during the third set.
Although Siegemund outplayed Gauff for the first set of the round, it was ultimately Gauff, the 19-year-old Florida native, who ended up being victorious in the end. Meanwhile, the last match of the day saw 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic defeat Alexandre Muller 6-0, 6-2, 6-3, making his big return to the U.S. a memorable one. Previously, Djokovic was banned from traveling to the United States last year since he wasn’t vaccinated against COVID-19.
