NEW YORK CITY — Viral videos showing plain clothed NYPD officers snatch a protester off a Manhattan street and throwing her into an unmarked minivan have sparked outrage.

"Incredibly disturbing. We need answers," tweeted City Council Speaker Corey Johnson.

"Our civil liberties are on brink," tweeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. "This is not a drill. There is no excuse for snatching women off the street and throwing them into unmarked vans."

The videos depict the moment Tuesday that a woman identified as "Nicki" or "Nikki" — a protester who was apparently part of a nearby demonstration at Madison Square Park — got swarmed by NYPD police officers at Second Avenue and 25th Street.

The officers corralled her into an unmarked van while other protesters shouted disbelief and obscenities while bicycle cops formed a barrier around the vehicle, video shows.

To many — including Mayor Bill de Blasio — the arrest recalled scenes from Portland, Oregon, where federal authorities have snatched protesters off the streets.

"Anything that even slightly suggests that is to me troubling and the kind of thing we don’t want to see in this city," De Blasio said.

"That was not the time and place to effectuate that arrest," he said.

The arrest unfolded amid an "Abolition Park" demonstration that arose after cops busted up a weeks-old "Occupy City Hall" encampment last week.

The NYPD claimed the woman they arrested was wanted "for damaging police cameras" during five separate incidents in and around City Hall Park, where the Occupy City Hall protest was centered.

"When officers from the Warrant Squad took the woman into custody in a gray NYPD minivan this evening, they were assaulted with rocks and bottles," NYPD's official Twitter account tweeted. "The Warrant Squad uses unmarked vehicles to effectively locate wanted suspects."

Patch, along with other outlets, could not see any rocks and bottles being thrown at police in the video, as claimed by the NYPD.

De Blasio, when questioned about the rock and bottles claim, said not all information released by city agencies is "perfect." He said there have been a relative few cases of things being thrown at cops and it will be reviewed in this case.

He repeated that damaging public property is worthy of arrest, but woman should not have been snatched off the street during a protest.

ABC7 reported the protester — who they identified as Nikki Stone, 18 — has since been released.
