NEW YORK CITY — Forget McDonald's — bodegas are the true champs of fast sandwiches in New York City.

Whether it's an egg-and-cheese, a chopped cheese or another cheesy or cheeseless concoction, the city's thousands of bodegas serve up a mouth-watering constellation of sandwiches, heroes and rolls.

And they're fast — a few clicks of a spatula, the whir of a deli slicer, the sizzle of egg or meat on a hot grill and the slice of a roll is all it takes to get a sandwich.
