$13,065 Public Safety Grant for Spring Valley

The money is coming from the cornerstone federal crime-fighting program.

A $13,065 grant from the federal government will be used by the Village of Spring Valley to help better equip and train local law enforcement officials.

“Our communities are most secure when we work together to fight and reduce crime,” said Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey (Westchester/Rockland), the Ranking Member on the House Appropriations Committee, when she announced the grant. “I’m pleased this grant will ensure the continued safety of our neighborhoods and families.”

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne JAG) Program is the cornerstone federal crime-fighting program, supporting the federal government’s crucial role in spurring innovation, as well as testing and replicating evidence-based practices nationwide. States and localities use Byrne JAG to test emergence and evidence-based approaches to public safety challenges. Over the years, many proven criminal justice practices have been tested using Byrne JAG funds and are now in practice nationwide, such as anti-gang strategies, drug courts, reentry programs, and information sharing protocols such as multi-jurisdictional drug and gang task forces.
