Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe today announced the filing of criminal charges against 22 alleged drug peddlers for selling heroin, prescription drugs, cocaine and marijuana to undercover police officers during anti-drug initiatives throughout Rockland County.

The defendants - who range in age from 21 to 56 - are charged with selling heroin, powdered and crack cocaine, oxycodone, methamphetamine and marijuana to undercover detectives in the towns of Haverstraw, Clarkstown, Orangetown and Ramapo, including downtown areas in the villages of Spring Valley, Nyack and Haverstraw. Open-air transactions took place on the main streets in the villages on dozens of separate occasions during the past two months.

“These arrests are just the latest results of a coordinated law enforcement and prosecutorial anti-drug initiative that has produced long prison sentences for dangerous criminals and safer neighborhoods for our residents,” said Zugibe. “We will continue to work together with our local, state and federal partners, elected officials and community leaders to keep our families safe.”

The open-air drug transactions have led to more than 80 counts of criminal sale and criminal possession of controlled substances. Nineteen of the 22 defendants have prior criminal histories for weapon charges, drug sale and possession charges, criminal impersonation charges, assault charges, petit larceny, criminal mischief charges, criminal trespass charges and parole violations.

Search warrants were executed at seven locations throughout Rockland County, including Orangetown, Haverstraw, Clarkstown, the villages of Suffern and Spring Valley. At two of the locations in Clarkstown, the Rockland County Drug Task Force and the Clarkstown Police Department Street Crime Unit executed search warrants which resulted in the securing and seizure ofoxycodone, heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine.

A search of 6 Barbara Lane in New City, the residence of Brian Lora, revealed more than 400 oxycodone pills, over 90 wax paper bags of heroin and over $10,000 in cash.

At 34 Burda Lane, New City, the residence of William and Marlena Daberkow, detectives uncovered six ounces of powder cocaine, over nine ounces of methamphetamine and over $20,000 in cash.

These drug investigations and resulting arrests have been a collaborative and coordinated response to open-air drug dealing complainants and targeted distribution locations by our local municipalities including: the Towns/Villages of Haverstraw, Clarkstown, Ramapo, Orangetown, Suffern and Spring Valley.

The Drug Task Force, along with the Street Crime Units, Detective Bureaus and Uniform Patrol Officers, Probation Officers and Parole Officers will continue to dismantle open-air drug dealers that fuel all other crimes that deteriorate our communities.

Additional resources that have been instrumental to these drug organizations and identifying these networks have been our Federal/State Partners, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration – New York Division - Tactical Diversion Squad (T.D.S.), and the New York State Police Troop F – Haverstraw K-9 Unit. The Rockland County Drug Task Force recognizes the valuable partnership it has established with our Federal and State Agencies. These partnerships have provided tremendous resources to Rockland County’s drug organizations, its intelligence and analytical mapping. Utilizing State and Federal resources demonstrate the commitment Rockland County Drug Task Force has to dismantling narcotic networks.
