600+ Without Electricity: Hudson Valley Power Update

Utility companies are almost finished as the next storm approaches.

The four utilities serving the Hudson Valley are racing Monday to finish repairs before the region gets another snowfall. The National Weather Service calls for up to 5 inches of snow in the region before the storm passes Tuesday afternoon.

NYSEG said Saturday it had restored power to nearly all of the more than 203,000 customers that were affected by two winter storms in a week. O&R said it has restored about 67,000 customers to service just since Wednesday.

There are less than 1,000 customers still awaiting fixes, the companies reported.

The simpler service jobs have been repaired, with all company resources today addressing the more difficult single-service outages with significant damage that require multiple crews. In some instances, repairs by the customers’ contractors must be made before electricity can be safely restored, O&R officials said.

Con Edison officials said with virtually all restorations completed, Westchester will continue seeing utility crews on the streets for several days as the company reinforces rebuilt infrastructure and continues cleanup efforts from the two storms.
