NEW CITY, NY — Amazon plans to put part of its new second headquarters in Long Island City, the Seattle-based company announced Tuesday. They expect to create more than 25,000 high-paying jobs there; and that means lots of opportunities for Hudson Valley residents, for whom the NYC metro commute is routine.
"When we start officially hiring here next year we will be able to attract top tier talent that will help us innovate on behalf of our customers for years to come," John Schoettler, Amazon's vice president of real estate, said at a news conference in Manhattan.

Amazon said Tuesday it will invest about $2.5 billion at each of two new locations: in Long Island City and in Arlington, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C.
For the New York HQ, Amazon will receive nearly $3 billion worth of state and city incentives, said Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo said the company's operation in Long Island City will generate $27.5 billion in tax revenue for a nine-to-one return, the highest rate ever for a state economic development project.

The commute's a normal one for Hudson Valley residents who work in NYC. It's an hour from New City, two hours from Dutchess. And when the new Penn station trains are running, New Rochelle will be the closest stop on the New Haven Line, which will pass through Long Island City.
