Brutal Murder Of His 2 Aunts In Rockland County Leads To 25-To-Life For NJ Man

SPRING VALLEY, NY — A New Jersey resident has been sentenced for the brutal killing of two family members in Rockland County.

District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced on Monday that 21-year-old Alan Abad, a/k/a Alina Abad, of Westwood, New Jersey, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after previously pleading guilty to first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder.

The DA's Office noted that it recommended the maximum sentence of life in prison without parole for first-degree murder, and 25 years to life in prison on each of the counts of second-degree murder, to run consecutive to each other. If the maximum sentence had been imposed, Abad would have spent the rest of his life in prison. However, the sentence imposed by the court of 25 years to life will make Abad eventually eligible for parole.

Prosecutors say that on February 15, 2025, around 6:30 p.m., on Gesner Drive, in Spring Valley, Abad caused the deaths of his two aunts, Evelyn Augilar-Agustin and Anabelly Aguilar.

He caused blunt force trauma to Aguilar-Agustin's head, face and abdomen, which caused her death.

Abad also caused blunt force trauma to Aguilar's head and upper neck, causing cervical spine fractures, brain injuries and hemorrhages, which caused her death.

"The defendant brutally and senselessly murdered two innocent women who were members of the defendant's very own family," DA Walsh said. "My office vigorously advocated on their behalf and sought the maximum penalty allowed under the law. I offer my sincere condolences to their family and thank my prosecutors and our law enforcement partners for their dedication and professionalism in seeking justice for the victims."

The investigation was conducted by the Spring Valley Police Department with help from the Rockland County Sheriff's Office.

Chief Assistant DA Dominic Crispino and First Assistant DA Matthew Martinez prosecuted the case.
