SPRING VALLEY, NY — A 58-year-old woman has died after the vehicle she had been operating struck her on Friday, police said.
Detective Sgt. Randy DiPaolo said the accident happened around 5:22 p.m. at 175 North Main St.
When police arrived, a witness told them they had seen a female get struck by her own vehicle, police said.
Officers found the victim, who was unresponsive, and they started performing life-saving measures, according to DiPaolo.
Emergency personnel rushed the woman to Good Samaritan Hospital for further medical treatment.
"Sadly, the victim succumbed to her injuries," DiPaolo said, in an announcement Monday.
Investigators believe the victim had gotten out of her vehicle while it was inadvertently left in reverse instead of park, police said.
"As she attempted to re-enter the vehicle, it struck her, causing catastrophic injuries," DiPaolo said.
The accident is still under investigation.
