ATV Driver Airlifted After Serious Crash On Route 17

Ramapo police said the Sloatsburg Fire Department managed the landing zone at the ball field.

SLOATSBURG, NY — An ATV and a Subaru collided on Route 17 in Sloatsburg Saturday evening. The driver of the ATV sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.

Ramapo police said they were called to the scene, near the Sunnyside Restaurant, at about 7:32 p.m. The accident occurred when an ATV and a 2016 Subaru collided. Both were traveling northbound in the left lane, police said.

The driver of the ATV, a 51-year-old Sloatsburg resident was treated at the scene by Rockland Paramedics. An off duty doctor on his way to Tuxedo also stopped and rendered aid to the victim. He was then taken by Sloatsburg Ambulance to the Sloatsburg Ball Field where a helicopter took him to Westchester Medical Center. The Sloatsburg Fire Department managed the landing zone at the ball field.

The driver of the Subaru, a 30-year-old from Monroe and his 29-year-old passenger were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital aboard a second Sloatsburg ambulance for observation.

The New York State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and the Ramapo PD are conducting a joint investigation. Route 17 was closed in both directions for several hours during investigation and cleanup. As of Saturday evening, no tickets had been issued.
