Brinks Robbery Getaway Driver Denied Parole

Governor Cuomo had commuted Judith Clark's sentence to give her a shot before the parole board. Otherwise, she would have waited until 2056.

Judith Clark, who has spent the past 35 years behind bars for her role in the 1981 Brinks armored car robbery in which two Nyack police officers and a security guard were killed, will not be getting out for at least another two years. The New York State Parole Board denied her first bid for early release on Friday.

The parole board's decision was unanimous.

Clark, 67, was sentenced to 75-years to life. She was not supposed to be eligible for parole until 2056 when she would have been 106.

Last December, Governor Andrew Cuomo commuted her sentence, giving her a shot at parole. It was a move sharply opposed by Rockland County officials and law enforcement - some of whom praised the parole board's decision.

"Judith Clark needs to spend the rest of her life behind bars to pay her debt to society," said Rockland County Executive Ed Day. "She is a domestic terrorist who does not deserve to walk among the free."

Day said what when Clark returns to the parole board in 2019 when she is next eligible, families of the victims will have company in opposing her release.

"The families will not be alone," Day said. "As long as there is a breath in my body, I will join the law enforcement community to oppose the release of this cop-killer.”

Clark does have her supporters who point out that she was never accused of killing anyone and has a remarkable record behind bars of not only rehabilitating herself but working with other prisoners.

Her release was also supported by members of New York's Congressional delegation and former presidents of the New York City Bar Association.
