Clarkstown Company Wins Low-Cost Power From NYPA

The ReCharge NY program aims to spur business investment and create jobs in the state.

CONGERS, NY — A company in Congers is included in a new round of 38 low-cost power allocations under the ReCharge NY Program by the New York Power Authority. The Board of Trustees' most recent approval is expected to spur $1.4 billion in new capital investment in the state and create 1,006 new jobs, state officials said.

In the Mid Hudson, there are three recipients:

  • Allstate Apple Exchange, Inc. of Milton, Ulster County - $1,250,000
  • AptarGroup, Inc. of Congers, Rockland County - $17,500,000
  • Speyside Holdings LLC of Highland Mills, Orange County - $7,000,000

With that $25.75 million investment, state officials said, the Mid-Hudson Region retains 241 jobs and gains 34 jobs.

"States are now competing on a global scale to attract and retain businesses, spring job growth and create capital investment opportunities," President and CEO of NYPA Gil C. Quiniones said in the announcement about the newest allocations. "ReCharge NY is one of the more prominent tools in New York State's tool belt, designed to provide the state with the needed leverage in keep the economy going strong."

Administered by the New York Power Association, Recharge NY spurs economic development by providing low-cost power to businesses and other entities that agree to retain or create jobs and commit to new capital spending. It was launched in 2011 and now provides power to 744 businesses and not-for-profit organizations, creating and retaining jobs, and sparking capital investment in regions throughout New York.

The 19.1 megawatts of low-cost power under the latest allocations will be distributed among 29 businesses and nonprofit organizations from Long Island to Western New York.
