Clarkstown Cops Running in Marine Corps Marathon Sunday

They're running to raise awareness of the struggles returning combat veterans and their families face.

NEW CITY, NY — Ten members of the Clarkstown Police Department are running in Sunday's 41st Marine Corps Marathon in an effort to raise awareness of the struggles returning combat veterans and their families face on a continuous basis.

The CPD Team is running for the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation.

MRF recognizes the services, strategic capabilities and innumerable advanced military and combat tactics of the Marine Reconnaissance Units. Incorporated in 2013, the Foundation works towards the welfare and benefit of the serving members, retired members and family members of deceased combatants being the first ever organization to assist the Marine Reconnaissance Community in the United States.

Team Recon from the Clarkstown Police Benevolent Association are: Dan Burke, Tom Curley, Tim Hodges, Andrew Kelly, Tom Latorre, Bob Reekie, Bill Robinson, Chris Robinson, Kevin Shea and Matt Sheehy.

The Marine Corps Marathon is one of the largest in the world. Its scenic course is managed by the US Marines in Arlington, VA and the nation's capital. It is the largest marathon in the world that doesn't offer prize money, earning its nickname, “The People's Marathon.”
