Clarkstown North Class of 2010 Graduates

Principal Harry Leonardatos was the first to speak to the graduates, giving words of encouragement for the future.

"I want you to make the world a better place," said  Leonardatos. The principal went on to congratulate the students on their collective accomplishments and introduced two extraordinary students to speak to their peers.

The Salutatory address was given by Jamie Etkind. In her speech, Etkind listed the numerous accomplishments of the athletic, scholarly and creative students who make up the class of 2010.

"There are 389 of us, each different than the next," said Etkind. She left her fellow classmates with a challeng: To strive to make one great worldly accomplishment each year, because 389 great accomplishments every year will make the world a better place.

"Time, that is the key," said  valedictorian Arielle Friehling. Friehling asked her peers to imagine that the world would end in 2012, as the Mayan calendar predicts. If you only had two years left on earth, how would you live? "Instead of focusing on how much time we have left, focus on your direction," said Friehling. "We have the power to point the world in any direction. The time is now, take your stand and choose your path."

One by one, the Class of 2010 was congratulated and honored as they received their diplomas; the 389 individuals stood together and were officially proclaimed graduates of Clarkstown High School North.

Weather conditions led school officials to change the site of graduation from the outdoor venue at North in New City to the indoor facilities of the RCC Fieldhouse in Ramapo.
