Clarkstown Police Charge 3 with ID Theft

The trio were trying to buy hundreds of dollars worth of stuff at Kohl's, police allege.

Clarkstown police were called to the the Kohl's store on East Route 59 in Nanuet, N.Y., at 9:15 p.m. March 17 for a report of a fraudulent transaction.

According to loss prevention personnel, one person selected merchandise from the store displays. Two other people then brought the merchandise to the checkout line and attempted to purchase the items, which were valued at $672.72.

However, police allege, the three were using the identity and social security number of someone who was not present and who had not consented to the transaction.

The three were identified as Jonathan Contreras, 31, of Bronx, N.Y., Juanier Baldemora, 24, of Bronx, N.Y., and a third who is a minor.

They were detained and transported to Clarkstown Police Department and charged with violation of New York Penal Law sections for the Identity Theft 2nd degree (felony), Petit Larceny, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree.

They were arraigned before Judge David Ascher at Clarkstown Justice Court. Bail was set at $5,000, and they are due back in court March 23.
