CLARKSTOWN, NY — Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann is running for New York State Senate. He seeks to replace State Sen. David Carlucci, who is campaigning for a seat in Congress, replacing the retiring Nita Lowey in the New York 17th.

The Rockland Republican Committee has endorsed him. (See the Rockland Report for Hoehmann's speech to the committee after its vote.)

"I'm not going to sit back and watch as problems occur, and what we're witnessing in Albany goes beyond problem," he said, citing bail reform, Medicaid and the state budget deficit and blaming the radical Left. "Each passing week another policy idea is passed into law without thinking about what the consequences will be for state and local government."

Hoehmann could end up facing off against Clarkstown Town Clerk Justin Sweet, who has declared his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for the 38th state Senate District seat.

There are three other Democrats in the race as well: Spring Valley Trustee Eudson Francois, Tony Martinez, and Nyack Trustee Elijah Reichlin-Melnick.
