Community Fundraises For Youth Sports Devastated By Ida

The fields and field house were flooded with up to 5 feet of water.

SUFFERN, NY — As communities across New York are recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Ida's remnants, two youth sports groups in Rockland County are raising money to deal with their losses.

Suffern Little League president Jim Hart turned to GoFundMe to ask for help repairing the field and facilities and also replace equipment. On Help Rebuild Suffern Little League, he wrote, "Our fields and field house were flooded with up to 5 feet of water. The floodwaters were so damaging, our snack stand was completely destroyed."

Per the fundraiser, all kitchen equipment was lost, and, Hart said, the insurance policy doesn't cover flood damage.

On Help Save Suffern Youth Football and Cheer, Jim Hart wrote, the building flooded, and "nearly every piece of equipment we had as an organization, including pads, helmets, balls, practice padding, jerseys, audio equipment, furniture, a refrigerator, a freezer, and kitchen equipment were all a complete loss."

Over $4,000 has been raised in two days.
