Congers Road Re-Opened to Two-Way Traffic
Work on Congers Road halted until topcoat paving completed on South Main Street
For the next few days, drivers using Congers Road will be able to travel in either direction. Clarkstown Public Works Administrator Ed Lettre said the state Department of Transportation gave the town permission to stop the construction on Congers Road until paving is finished on South Main Street. The South Main Street work is scheduled to begin Wednesday evening.
“We just broke down the detour signs,” said Ed Lettre. “DOT gave us permission to do it. We will stop work on Congers Road until the paving is done.”
The overnight topcoat paving on South Main Street will begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. It is expected to take three nights to complete it unless weather becomes a factor. No traffic will be allowed on South Main Street between the intersections of Congers Road and Third Street.

To bypass the overnight construction on South Main Street, north and southbound traffic will be detoured to Maple Avenue via Congers Road and Third Street. No construction will take place on Third Street, Congers Road, or Maple Avenue.
At times, some side streets including Demarest Avenue, First Street, Second Street, Twin Elms, and Stokum Lane will be closed or have limited access due to the construction activity. Emergency vehicle access will be provided when needed.
