Cops Chase Down Home Depot Larceny Suspects

State police were called to a crime in progress at the Palisades.

CLARKSTOWN, NY – New York State police were called to a larceny in progress at the Home Depot in the Palisades Center Mall at 1:57 p.m. Wednesday. They found and tried to stop the suspects' vehicle, and a chase ensued.

The fleeing suspects left the parking lot of the Home Depot and sped I-87 northbound and continued for a short distance but then their vehicle crashed into a guide rail.

The driver of the vehicle, Curtis D Grimsley, 51, of Newark, NJ, and his two passengers Vershone Dawes, 47, of Newark, NJ and Marquis T. Harris, 31, of Irvington, NJ all were taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.

All three were transported and processed at the state police barracks in Tarrytown, where they were subsequently charged with:

  • Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in the 3rd degree; a Class A Misdemeanor (Grimsley only)
  • Petit Larceny; a Class A Misdemeanor (Grimsley only)
  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree; (Grimsley, Dawes, Harris)
  • Reckless Endangerment 1st degree; a Class D Felony (Grimsley only)
  • Multiple vehicle and traffic violations (Grimsley only)


All three men were to be arraigned in the Town of Clarkstown Court.
