Weekend Coronavirus Update: 433 New Cases In Orange, Rockland

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Coronavirus cases ticked upward again over the past three days in Orange and Rockland counties after dropping for two weeks, though active cases are still far below the recent spike.

Increased cases in both counties attributed to community spread in micro-clusters had started in late September, peaked in early October, and begun to subside after New York health officials imposed restrictions on businesses, schools and gatherings.

However, according to the state's dashboard, test-positivity rates have begun rising again. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 190 people tested positive in Orange County and 243 tested positive in Rockland County, the state reported Monday.

There are currently 884 active cases in Rockland; 25 people are hospitalized with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19.

There are currently 411 active cases in Orange; 42 people with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized.

In the Hudson region, Sullivan County has now joined Orange, Rockland and Westchester with rates above the average New York positivity rate of 1.48 percent outside the micro-clusters that Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced at his Monday briefing.
