County Exec Requests Confirmation Of Chief Medical Examiner

Dr. Laura Carbone took over as acting chief medical examiner last October after the resignation of Dr. Mark Taff, and now County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef is asking the Rockland County Legislature to confirm his appointment of Carbone as chief medical examiner for the Rockland County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The county medical examiner’s office investigates thousands of deaths, as well as providing round the clock coverage for the county.

Carbone was the deputy medical examiner since 2006 and previously worked as a medical examiner in the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office for eight years.

“Dr. Carbone is a talented forensic pathologist, with over 15 years experience in the field of Forensic Pathology and triple board certification in Anatomic, Clinical and Forensic Pathology,” Vanderhoef said in a released statement. “For the past six years she has served with distinction as Rockland County’s Deputy Chief Medical Examiner.”  

The medical examiner oversees an office staff of six full time employees and four part-time relief pathologists and investigators. 

She received her Forensic Pathology training at the NYC Office of Chief
Medical Examiner and completed her combined Anatomic and Clinical
Pathology residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.
Dr. Carbone was awarded her medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1991. She lives with her husband and their three daughters in Rockland County.
