COVID-19 Kills 27 In The Hudson Valley Since Aug. 31

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — In the last week, 27 Hudson Valley residents died of COVID-19. They were among 204 New Yorkers dead from the disease caused by the coronavirus from Aug. 31 through Labor Day.

That's up from the week ending Aug. 28, when the death toll was 17 dead in the Hudson Valley out of 151 in New York.

"We are continuing to watch the numbers and while some metrics continue to be promising, others are moving in the wrong direction," Gov. Kathy Hochul said in Tuesday's announcement about the status of the pandemic. "With students back at their schools and colleges and increasingly more people returning to work in-person, it is more critical than ever that we double down on everything we can do to stop the spread of infection."

• On Labor Day, 35 New Yorkers died of COVID-19, including 1 in Orange County, 1 in Rockland and 2 in Westchester.
• Sept. 5: 26 deaths reported in the state, including 1 in Dutchess, 1 in Orange, 2 in Ulster and 1 in Westchester.
• Sept. 4: 27 deaths reported including 2 in Dutchess and 1 in Westchester
• Sept. 3: 28 deaths reported including 2 in Dutchess, 1 in Orange, 1 in Putnam, 1 in Rockland, 1 in Ulster and 2 in Westchester
• Sept. 2: 28 deaths reported including 1 in Dutchess
• Sept. 1: 33 deaths reported including 2 in Dutchess and 1 in Westchester
• Aug. 31: 27 deaths reported including 1 in Ulster and 2 in Westchester

Nationwide, the current 7-day moving average of new deaths (1,047) has increased 3.7 percent over the previous 7-day moving average, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
