26 Dogs, Some Sick, Some Dead, Found in Derelict House in Rockland
The house in Stony Point was filthy and smelled of death, according to news reports.
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Authorities discovered 21 dogs and 5 animal carcasses in a house in Stony Point on Thursday. The Hudson Valley Humane Society's enforcement officers obtained a warrant after receiving reports of animal abuse, according to news reports. Once they and the Stony Point police got there, the horrible revelations just kept coming.
They found the dogs, some quite sick. They found feces and urine all over the floors of the small ranch house. Then they found dog carcasses in plastic bags and trash cans. Then they called for backup.
According to the Rockland County Times, police then called the town building department, fire inspector, Rockland County Department of Health and Adult Protective Services to the scene. The building was condemned as unsafe for human habitation and utilities were cut off. The homeowner, Jerome Adler, 75, had been living there with his wife.
