Driver In Fatal Congers Crash ID'd

Two men were ejected from a car that hit a utility pole Friday night.

CONGERS, NY — The driver in a fatal crash Friday in Congers has been identified as Mark Savino, 35, by Clarkstown police.

Police were called to Route 9W at Lake Road at 11:45 p.m. about a car that hit a utility pole and overturned. Officers discovered two men who had been ejected from the car.

Savino, a Congers resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Rockland Paramedics.

The passenger, Salvador Dejesus Rojas, 41, was treated at the scene by Rockland Paramedics and Congers-Valley Cottage Ambulance Corps and then transported to Westchester Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries, police said. They did not have an update on his condition Monday morning.

The utility pole was destroyed in the accident. Route 9W was closed from Lake Road in Congers to Lake Road in Valley Cottage for most of Saturday as O&R restored service.

The Clarkstown Police Accident Investigation Team is working to determine the cause of the crash.

"We are saddened to have to report on yet another fatal accident here in Clarkstown; our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the deceased," police said.
