Drones Are Now Inspecting Bridges, Buildings and More!
Not only is this a cost effective means of inspection, but also one that provides safety measures for the inspection team

Drones give people the ability to take both images and videos of remote locations that were once labor intensive to inspect. Not only is this a cost effective means of inspection, but also one that provides safety measures for the inspection team. From pipelines to buildings, unmanned aerial vehicles are becoming the instrument of choice for many thanks to their efficiency and low cost. Some of the areas they are now being used for inspection include:
1. Power lines
Power lines transverse the country, often through remote areas. When power lines go down in remote areas it can take the power companies days to find out which area the problem stems from. Leaving countless business and homes without power. This problem has been solved through the use of drones which fly over the power lines and take images which the power companies then use to diagnose the problem. A much faster solution than having to send out a technician to drive along miles of lines to find the problem.
2. Bridges
Bridges are an important part of the transport network and the slightest of weakness in a bridge structure can lead to many getting injured or even losing their lives. Drones are being used to ensure this does not happen. Many local governments have turned to the use of footage captured by drones to inspect bridges for any sign of weakness. Traditional methods, such as the use of ladders and snoopers can be limited in cases where a bridge is built over a water body. Not to mention that these traditional methods can be quite cost intensive. Drones provide a cost-effective method for bridge inspection that also cuts down on the labor required. A drone is flown over a bridge and takes many photographs of the bridge from different vantage points. These photographs are then analyzed by engineers and where any weakness is spotted, it is attended to promptly before it becomes a big problem.

3. Pipelines
Pipelines carrying oil, much like remotely located power lines, require an efficient and cost-effective method to inspect them. Drones have become important in this field and provide oil companies with real time images of their pipelines. Whenever the oil companies find any pipeline that has a leak or one that needs any repair they can attend to it promptly, saving themselves from losses that could have resulted in oil spills.
4. Buildings & Drone Roof Inspections
Construction engineers have been some of the most enthusiastic adopters of unmanned aerial vehicles for building inspections. Drones present a new vantage point that has not been offered before. Engineers can inspect their buildings from different angles, both from the ground and from an aerial view. They can do this quickly and inexpensively all from the safety of the ground. It has become possibly the quickest, safest, easiest way for a roofer to inspect a roof for any leaks or damages.

Increased use in the future
As more time passes, drones will likely become the preferred method of inspection in many professional fields. They are less expensive compared to traditional methods and the results are timely and accurate. As the analytics software continues to be improved, many potential problems will be detected in advance and attended to before they cause any damage.
