Elizabeth Santiago Honored at County, State Events in March

Santiago, Executive Director of Center for Safety & Change, was honored by Nyack Center and Strong Nonprofits for a Better New York

Center for Safety & Change Executive Director Elizabeth Santiago was honored by a local nonprofit and a statewide coalition in the month of March 2018. On Saturday, March 10, Santiago was honored at Nyack Center’s annual Women of Leadership and Vision Brunch in Nyack. On Tuesday, March 13, Santiago was honored at a press conference hosted by Strong Nonprofits for a Better New York celebrating Notable Women in Human Services in Albany.

Elizabeth Santiago is an activist working on social justice issues for over 20 years. She is recognized for her expertise on issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and violence against women. Santiago is the Executive Director of Center for Safety & Change, the sole victim assistance provider in Rockland County, serving victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and all other crimes, such as elder abuse and hate crimes. Santiago is sought as an adviser, consultant and trainer both locally and nationally. She serves as a liaison with federal, state and local agencies and works with various systems and political leaders to develop legislation and coordinate service networks.

The Nyack Center Women of Leadership and Vision Brunch has been held each year for the past 14 years during Women’s History Month to honor women of leadership and vision in Rockland County. Strong Nonprofits for a Better New York, a Statewide coalition of more than 350 nonprofit human services providers calling for increased State investment in the sector’s workforce and infrastructure, will celebrate Women’s History Month by highlighting notable women in human services from past to present times by inducting honorees into the Women in Human Services Hall of Fame. Santiago was nominated for inclusion in the Hall of Fame by State Senator David Carlucci. A press conference was held on Tuesday, March 13 at the Million Dollar Staircase in the New York State Capitol in Albany, NY.
