Experience Key In Nanuet Win Over Lady Falcons Lacrosse

Despite solid effort, Nanuet's veteran attackers too much for Albertus defense.

The Albertus Magnus Falcons played an intense girls lacrosse match against the talented Nanuet Knights.

The Falcons played intelligently and energetically, however, the final score of 10-17 was due to the superior shot-making ability of the Knights.  While Albertus was able to get shot opportunities, they only made 10 of their 33 shots as opposed to Nanuet's 17 out of 30 attempts.  With two top attackers playing for Nanuet, the Falcons knew that they had a challenging game ahead of them.  Despite not getting the win, everyone stepped up to the challenge and forced the Knights to work hard to earn the win.

Nanuet had a strong start, with the first two goals of the game.  Albertus retaliated with a goal of their own, however this was followed by two more from the Knights.  The Falcons continued to stay in the game by working hard on defense and executing well on offense.

Despite not having any senior attackers, the younger players stepped up and took control of the plays.  When they got possession, they took the time to slow down plays when necessary and to attack quickly on transition when they had numbers on the defense.  By displaying these veteran instincts, the Falcons were able to set up solid offensive plays in which they passed around the perimeter and into penetrating cutters to get good shot attempts.

Unfortunately for Albertus, the Knights retaliated with scrappy defense and powerful offensive possessions.  The ability of their veteran players to break down the defense, time their passes and shots, and place the ball in the net with stunning accuracy was too much for the Falcons defense and goalie.  Despite having a solid offensive game, they could not keep up with the scoring ability of the Knights.

For the Falcons, #17 Kassi Kayser had an excellent game with four goals.  Nanuet focused on shutting down #22 Casey Silvestri and #11 Carly Cappello, so Kayser stepped-up and capitalized on the opportunity by making four of her five goal attempts.  Silvestri, who as only a sophomore scored her 100th goal on monday, was able to break through the tough coverage to score two goals.  Cappello was able to match this strong effort with two of her own.  Finally, #8 Sam Lowney had a talented offensive performance to score two, which brought them to ten.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, the great performances of Nanuet's senior attackers K.C. Jentzen with four and Courtney McGrath with five put the game out of reach for them.  They were supported by their teammates, who worked hard to get them the ball and score eight additional goals.

The Falcons continue to work hard and improve as the season progresses.  Though they have experience to gain, the team is chocked-full of promising players who are already displaying a lot of talent and intelligence on the field.  Coach Holland was very happy with their performance and of everything that they have accomplished this year.
