Feds OK Start of Rockland Pipeline Work

As officials and residents concerned about Spectra Energy’s pipeline expansion plan plead for more review, federal officials have said work can begin on parts of the project.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Tuesday granted Algonquin Gas Transmission, LLC permission to perform preconstruction piping investigations (sub‐surface exploratory vac‐truck excavations) at the Southeast Compressor Station.

FERC also granted Spectra’s Aug. 17 request to construct the Algonquin Incremental Market Project Haverstraw to Stony Point Take-up and Relay pipeline segment from Station 171+00.8 to 174+76.4 and Stony Point to Yorktown Take-up and Relay pipeline segment from Station 125+69.8 to 138+00 in Stony Point, New York.

The AIM project is the first of several planned by Spectra to expand the existing Algonquin pipeline between New Jersey and Canada.
