First Report On Sierra Vista Condo Fire

Clarkstown police and fire inspectors reviewed evidence from several sources.

VALLEY COTTAGE, NY — Clarkstown police reported results from their preliminary investigation into the massive fire that occurred April 14 in the Sierra Vista complex in Valley Cottage.

Fifteen condominiums were destroyed in the fire, displacing residents for the foreseeable future. Five people were injured.

Clarkstown's police Fire Investigators, with the assistance of the town's fire inspectors, reviewed evidence secured from the scene, video footage and statements from eyewitnesses.

Based on all of the aspects of the investigation, the following has been revealed, police said:

  • The origin of the fire was 483 Sierra Vista Lane.
  • The cause is Undetermined, meaning that there is not a known cause that started the fire.
  • The case will still be investigated, with the hopes of gathering additional evidence or statements

The Clarkstown Police Department will continue to assist the victims of this fire with the many issues they face trying to get their residences rebuilt or find homes in another location.
