Ilkiw is the longtime Animal Control Officer for the town of Montgomery in Orange County, where her colleagues have started a GoFundMe campaign to help her regroup.

"Ann has served as the ACO for the Town of Montgomery for nearly 20 years, while assisting with animal calls for the Village of Walden, Village of Maybrook, and Village of Montgomery," the Montgomery Police Benevolent Association wrote on GoFundMe. "The Town of Montgomery PBA is raising money on Ann's behalf to help her through this trying time."

One of those responding was Saddle Brook Farm Animal Rescue. "We donated to Ann; because she is a wonderful person, who is always assisting others. She helps every animal she can, as well as the people associated with the animals. Ann is a generous giving person, and she has more than earned assistance during her trying time. Ann spends her life paying it forward; it is now time to honor her gifts to us."
