HAVERSTRAW, NY — With a $13,950 grant from the state, the Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library will be able to upgrade the exterior stairways at the Village Branch.

“Although these construction projects may not be the flashiest headline, these are necessary upgrades that will improve and ensure accessibility for our residents," Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski said in a press release.

The grant came from the library construction aid program funded through the state budget.

"The Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library is deeply appreciative of the investment the NYS Senate and Assembly make in public libraries," Claudia Depkin, Director of the Haverstraw King's Daughters Public Library said. "The $13,950 Construction Grant award we received will be used to repair the exterior steps at our historic landmark Village Branch. We thank Senator Skoufis and Assemblyman Zebrowski for fighting to ensure we had the support to make these necessary repairs. We look forward to continuing to work together to deliver quality access to libraries for the residents of our community."

Easy public access to libraries essential to communities, Senator James Skoufis said. “Sometimes, something as seemingly small as a broken staircase could prevent someone from accessing all the resources that libraries provide.”
