UPDATE: Cigarettes Likely Cause of Knights of Columbus Fire
Firefighters had more work to do there at 2:15AM.

UPDATE 11AM: A preliminary investigation at the Knights of Columbus on route 9W revealed that the fire may have been caused by cigarettes being thrown into mulch located around the building.
The Congers Fire Department was called back to the scene at 2:15 AM for a hot spot at the location. It was extinguished without incident, police said.

A report that the Knights of Columbus hall was on fire sent Congers and Valley Cottage firefighters and Clarkstown police to 114 N. Route 9w at 6:41 p.m. Sept., 4.
The building had heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof when responding units arrived.

Everyone in the building was able to exit without injury, police said.
The building had extensive damage and will be inspected by the Fire Inspector as well as the Building Inspector. The blaze did not appear to be suspicious.
