Let the Charity Challenge Begin

Charitable organizations in Rockland will benefit from the Rockland Boulders and Active International's Charity Challenge held in Provident Bank Park throughout the summer.

This Thursday, July 14th begins the 2011 Charity Challenge, a promotional program in which Active International has teamed up with The Rockland Boulders to benefit charitable organizations in Rockland.

With the purchase of Rockland Boulder tickets, people in the community can go to Provident Bank Park on selected nights in support of organizations including People to People, Helen Hayes Hospital Foundation, , , American Red Cross, , and The Nam Knights M.C. Hudson Valley Chapter.

Active International, a global leader in corporate trade, will be matching funds raised from percentages of ticket sales and concession sales for each charity on its selected night.

"This is a great opportunity for Active, through Active Cares, to continue its support of some of the charities and community activities we work closely with in an exciting new environment,” says Joe Allen, Senior Vice President of Employee Communications and Community Affairs. "The new ballpark is beautiful, the baseball is engaging and the ‘feel’ of the entire experience is unlike anything we've seen in Rockland."

For Jawonio, a center for people with special needs, the funds from their Charity Challenge date, set for August 3rd, will support their adult employment and day services program.

“As the community may know, the Nyack floods wiped out our entire Nyack Studio Arts program,” says Diana Hess, Chief Communications Officer at Jawonio.

Fortunately, none of the 15 young adults with special needs who participate at the site or the experts and artists who participate with them were there at the time of the dangerous flooding. All of the artwork, supplies, and equipment that go into making the program a success were lost.

“The program has not missed a beat as the participants and staff have temporarily relocated to space in our New City campus, but everyone is anxious to get back to Nyack where the day program is truly part of the community,” says Hess.

Hess greatly appreciates the effort put into the Charity Challenge. “Facing the most challenging economic time in decades, we are so grateful to Active International and the Boulders in providing this home run opportunity not just for Jawonio, but for all of the charity beneficiaries,” she says.

The Rockland Boulders are equally thrilled to help the charitable organizations in Rockland with Active International and Active Cares as their partners in the Charity Challenge.

Shawn Reilly, Boulders Executive Vice-President and General Manager says, “The Boulders share with Active the importance of giving back to the community and we look forward to working together on behalf of these important organizations.”

For Thursday’s game, which will benefit Rockland’s People to People, as well as other Charity Challenge games, tickets can be purchased at the Boulders web site on the fundraiser page.
