Letter to the Editor: Rockland Deserves Ride Sharing

To the Editor:

I am pleased to announce that a tentative agreement on ride sharing (Uber, Lyft etc.) has been reached in the NY State Budget.

Suburban and upstate residents deserve the same ride sharing opportunities as their neighbors in New York City.

There is a gap in taxi availability in many parts of Rockland County and ride sharing could fill that void.

It is important that the final agreement ensure that ride sharing is safe, secure and available. This means appropriate background checks and insurance policies without stifling fees.

I have been pushing for an agreement since last session and I am hopeful that this bill will finally be passed in the next few days.
