Multiple Injuries Reported After Fire Apparatus Crashes Into Residence In West Haverstraw

WEST HAVERSTRAW, NY — Multiple people were injured overnight when a fire department apparatus responding to a scene was involved in an accident, which pushed it into a residential building, officials said.

Jeffrey Kahn, chief of the Thiells Fire Department, said a Thiells fire apparatus was responding to a reported boat accident on the Hudson River near Haverstraw Marina around 12:06 a.m. Thursday.

According to Kahn, while the apparatus was en route, it was struck by another vehicle.

The force of this initial collision caused significant damage, and pushed the apparatus off the road and into a nearby residence, he said.

Officials said multiple individuals, including fire department members, were injured. Everyone who was hurt was evaluated and treated for injuries at local hospitals, according to Kahn. Officials did not immediately specify how many people were injured.

“We are grateful to report that all of our members have since been released and are recovering,” Kahn said, in a press release Thursday.

Mutual aid agencies provided assistance both at the scene and with ensuring emergency services continued to be available for residents.

The Town of Haverstraw Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.

“The officers and members of the Thiells Fire Department ask the community to keep everyone affected by this incident in their thoughts during their recovery,” Kahn said. “We are grateful for the continued support of our community and extend our sincere wishes for a full and speedy recovery to all those involved.”
