New City Native Completes Infantry Training
U.S. Army Specialist Michael J. Day gets set for Special Forces training.

U.S. Army Specialist Michael J. Day of New City, assigned to the 198th Infantry Brigade, has received his Blue Infantry Cord in the “Turning Blue” ceremony that preceded graduation exercises recognizing his completion of the three-month Basic Combat Training conducted at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA.
Day, a 2009 graduate of Iona College, has been selected and is on track for Special Forces training, where he will work toward earning the Green Beret during Airborne training at Fort Benning.
Day’s infantry training included subjects such as Army core values, mission, history, tradition, physical fitness, and other fundamentals of being an infantry soldier. Additional hands-on training also covered hand-to-hand combat, weapons, land navigation, rifle marksmanship, chemical warfare and bayonet training, anti personnel land mines, rappelling, anti-tank weaponry, explosives, and culminated in a special tactical field training exercise, where Day performed duty as a squad leader.

Day is the son of Jean and Edwin Day of New City.
