Local elections
In Clarkstown, two propositions are on the ballot. They would work in tandem to change the system of town government. One would create a “ward” system, in which town board members are elected by geographic district. The second would expand that board to six members from four.
Clarkstown races are contested almost across the board. Incumbent Town Supervisor Alex Gromack is fighting a challenge from George Hoehmann. Seeking the two seats on the Clarkstown town board are Shirley Lasker and Daniel Caprara running on the Democratic, Conservative, Working Family and Independence party lines, and Frank Borelli and John Noto running on the GOP and Reform party lines. There’s also a contest for town justice: Howard Gerber, David Ascher, Paul Chiaramonte and Denise Weiss want the two positions. There’s a three-way race for Highway Superintendent between Bob Milone, Frank DiZenzo and Wayne Ballard.
In Orangetown, Andy Stewart and Michael Moroney are fighting for the Town Supervisor post. Four people are vying over two seats on the town board: Chris Smith, Jerry Bottari, Tom Morr and Paul Valentine.
