NJ Man Charged in Thruway Kidnapping Case

NY state police say a woman he is alleged to have abducted in Newark, NJ escaped from his car and flagged down motorists for help.

New York State Police on Wednesday charged Rasheed McKenith of Newark, NJ with Kidnapping in the Second Degree stemming from an incident in April.

Police allege that on April 30, 2016, McKenith abducted a woman against her will in Newark, NJ. While traveling on the NY State Thruway in Sloatsburg, the woman was able to escape from his vehicle unharmed and seek help from passing motorists, police said.

The kidnapper fled.

Interviews with witnesses at the scene and information obtained from the Newark, NJ Police Department led to McKenith's arrest, police said.

McKenith was arraigned in the Village of Sloatsburg Court and remanded to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.
